Status, (as don would say): AdvancedInstrumentTree is now implemented! Go ahead and discuss existing instruments and suggest new ones!

Discuss Instrument additions and instrument addition wishes here. Please use [WWW] trac to add the request, (assign it to either luks or ZaphodBeeblebrox and use component "Style Issues: Instruments") when decided upon (see [WWW] here for a list of open tickets).

A new instrument can be added only when it is used on at least 5 regular, proper releases (live or album).
Please supply as much information about the instrument as possible, mo will probably ask for more information about the instrument if none is given. The best way to get your pet instrument added is by doing some research, give a short concise explanation on what it is, and providing ample links.

Please also do a second search in the Instrument list to make sure it is not already there : )

        • Honestly, I highly doubt it. He's probably just playing it behind his back/head, reversed, on in some other strange way. Or perhaps it's a left-hand guitar. I don't know. But I doubt it warrants an instrument listing on its own. -- FrederikSOlesen 2008-03-09 00:27:52

        • You provided the link to Wikipedia and still didn't read the article? Double bass would correspond to the contrabass tuning. Just use balalaika for now and record the tuning in the SubOptimalCredits. Tunings will most likely be added as a separate attribute. -- FrederikSOlesen 2008-03-09 00:27:52

      • Chromatic Button Accordion is a type of accordion.

      • I don't like the category button accordion. The similarity between a chromatic button accordion and a diatonic button accordion is that both have a round buttons on the right hand side. On the other hand, both piano accordion and chromatic button accordions have a complete chromatic scale, and hence could be categorized under chromatic accordions. -- Nereocystis

        • A "clàrsach" and an Irish harp are the same, the only difference is whether the instrument or player or tune is from Ireland or Scotland. Which, IMHO, isn't enough to warrant its own entry. (And [WWW] I play one, so I should be as eager as anyone to have as much granularity as possible in this area!) I'd support renaming "Irish harp" to "Irish harp / Clàrsach" though. -- FrederikSOlesen 2008-05-05 18:40:32

        • From what I can tell, it's just a regular (acoustic) guitar with pick-ups. Do you want "electric-acoustic" bouzoukis, banjos, harps, accordions, violins, guitar basses, double basses, ... etc. as well? -- -- FrederikSOlesen 2007-07-13 10:42:20

          • I suppose you have a point there. I personally don't have an electric acoustic anything, so I don't know if the sound is any different from normal acoustic. I do think that it's sort of odd that it's specifically credited as such in the booklet though. Kilu

Wikipedia suggests there are also a number of well-known (in their genre) jazz performers, as well as albums and soundtracks, that make use of the instrument. • a compact size B♭ trumpet, easy to carry around. Though never was considered good enough to be in official use in orchestras, it was featured quite some times in small jazz bands. Don Cherry is Mr. Pocket Trumpet, and him alone has dozen of releases on which he uses it (also check most Ornette Coleman releases where he features) - revealing this somewhat neglected poor trumpet its true potential. All these are currently documented as simply trumpet. Note this is not the same as the Piccolo Trumpet that we now have. More about the thingie at wackypedia. -- dmppanda 2008-01-21 05:24:09
